Are you like me and don't like having to type an IP and port? Well, you've come to the right place!

In this tutorial I'll show you how to get a free domain, and set up SRV records for your server using a free domain or a domain you already own. Everything shown in this tutorial is completely free!

Getting a domain

This segment will show you how to get a free domain with the '.tk' extension. If you already have your own domain you can skip to the next segment.

To get started, head on over to, enter the domain you would like to register.

Once clicking register, you will be taken to a register page. Fill in the details like so:

After doing this it will ask you to create an account with them, follow the provided steps. If you have a Google account you can simply login to their site using that.

Moving your DNS to CloudFlare

So now that the domain is registered, we need to set our DNS to a provider that supports SRV records, we will be using CloudFlare to do this.
Head on over to and create an account. You will be asked to add a website to your account, insert the domain you just registered.

It will do a 60 second scan of the domain and pick up the active DNS records. Once it is complete it will take you to a DNS manager containing a large list of DNS records, you're able to delete most of these.

Once you've removed the DNS records that won't be needed, create a new SRV record like so:

Once this has been done continue to the next step.

Just click the "Continue" button on the next page, you won't need to change any of those settings.

Setting the name servers

Almost there! All we need to do now is point our name servers for the domain to point to CloudFlare.
You will be presented with a screen like this with your name server details:

Navigate to and log in. Once login select "Domain panel" and select your domain.
Edit your DNS settings:

Once you're done click "Save changes" and go back to CloudFlare's website and click "I've updated my name servers, continue".

That's it! You're now done and have a free domain to connect to your website! It may take up to 24 - 48 hours for the domain to start working!
